The Road Home

The Road Home (now including Interfaith Hospitality Network -IHN) has several programs to help homeless families. Lake Edge is particularly involved with two of these: IHN and Housing & Hope.

IHN Shelter Network: Lake Edge is one of the founding members of Interfaith Hospitality Network, a group of area churches and synagogues which take turns hosting homeless families with children. Host churches provide three meals per day and evening activities. It takes lots of volunteers to keep this program running.

Housing and Hope: Lake Edge is also committed to contributing $15,000 to the Housing and Hope campaign to put up 30 units of affordable apartments with long-term support services for homeless families. The Housing and Hope project is an innovative, comprehensive vision for fighting homelessness, and it includes a "Forever Fund" endowment to provide operating expenses for decades to come.

  • Imagine: YOU Can Help Host IHN
Right now we need a new pool of volunteers to step up. You can work directly with homeless families right here at Lake Edge. Call Jessie Gwynne, 257-5761 or e-mail, or Sue Brockman-Zeigler, 764-5208 or e-mail, if you can help. IHN does ask that you attend a one-hour orientation/training session AT THE ROAD HOME HEADQUARTERS on Olin Avenue. Sessions are offered Wednesdays at 7pm (Oct. 21, Nov. 18, Dec. 2) and Tuesdays at 5:30pm (Oct. 6, Nov. 24, and Dec. 15).

    Ways You Can Help:
  • Be an overnight host -- spend the night at the church with the families (this is the biggest need right now)
  • Help with meals or laundry
  • Be a "floater" volunteer available to help host at partner churches
  • To volunteer, contact Jessie Gwynne, 257-5761 or e-mail
