Board of Christian Outreach Funds Allocation Guidelines

The Board of Christian Outreach of the Lake Edge United Church of Christ seeks out and supports ways in which members of our church can be of service to those in need through use of our time, talents and treasure. We are dedicated to responding to human need here and throughout the world as described in Matthew 25:31-46. This passage tells us to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, house the homeless and visit the sick and lonely. Our actions as individuals and as members of Christ’s church must aim to close the gap between what is and what ought to be in a real and substantial way.

In making decisions about how to use the money donated by the members of Lake Edge through the annual budget and through various contributions during the year, the Board has established these priorities.

  • We will try to address needs that are local without ignoring our obligations to the wider world of the state, nation and globe.
  • We will give preference to organizations that may be less in the limelight, that don’t have other major sources of funding or whose funding cycle is out of season.
  • We will give serious consideration to helping projects that have some direct connection to members of Lake Edge U.C.C.
  • We will give serious consideration to helping projects that seem to fit well with the way we understand the message of Christ to care for others.
  • We will not give money directly to individuals. Disbursements will be to organizations that are set up to make determinations of individual need.
  • We give particular attention to requests that come from organizations that serve the immediate Lake Edge neighborhood.
  • We generally prefer to fund established organizations but will consider programs which are just getting started.
  • We have a particular interest in helping meet the needs for food and shelter in the Dane County area.
