Baptism

"Let your roots grow down into God and draw up nourishment, so that you will grow in faith, strong and vigorous in the truth you were taught." Colossians 2:7

The sacrament of baptism is an outward and visible sign of the grace of God. Through baptism a person is joined with the universal church, the body of Christ. In baptism, God works in us the power of forgiveness, the renewal of the spirit, and the knowledge of the call to be God's people always.

For infants and children, as well as for youth and adults who have never been baptized before, baptism marks their acceptance into the care of Christ's church, the sign and seal of God's grace and forgiveness, and the beginning of their Christian faith and life.

At Lake Edge, infants and children are typically baptized in a special ceremony as part of the Sunday morning worship service. The baptism is a chance for the congregation to welcome and meet the newest member of the church family.

Adults and older children are typically baptized as part of a new member ceremony or confirmation if they had not been baptized before. The United Church of Christ recognizes all Christian baptisms; there is no need to be baptized again if you had been baptized before by another church.
