"What does the Lord require of you? To do justice,
love mercy, and walk humbly with your God." Micah

All graduating 8th graders and high school students are encouraged to participate in the summer work camp experience. Building on Lake Edge’s long history of youth work camps, the focus of these service/learning experiences is to root our commitment to justice in our Christian faith and to partner with local people and agencies that are working for long-term change in their communities. Our hope is that our young people develop a life-long commitment to service and justice work for God’s world.
We had a great group of young people heading down to Louisville, Kentucky at the end of July 2009 to learn more about how we can serve the poor and the marginalized in our world. Sixteen youth and several adults journeyed down to the land of sweet tea and fried okra and their week of service work was done within the context of the “creation of unlikely relationships.” The group worked with a progressive Catholic organization called CrossRoads that guided us on an intentional and faith-filled urban immersion experience. Our journey together was guided by Luke’s story of the Road to Emmaus.
Youth and leaders presented a worship service inspired by their trip on September 27.
