IHN Volunteer Stories: Audrey

Lake Edge's IHN "buddy church" Monona Grove Lutheran member Audrey Meyer shares her thoughts about being an IHN overnight host:
Just want to add a note regarding our visit with the Road Home guests on our evening and night to host. It was one of the most rewarding experiences we've had. Such nice people and once they got acquainted with us, they were so very friendly; and thoughtful. Such a good group of people.

Diane offered to wake us in the morning so we wouldn't over sleep (which she did). Kimberly offered me a taste of her buffalo wings which she was cooking later in the evening. "They weren't hot"!!! We had a good laugh over that. I drank two glasses of milk before my mouth stopped burning--and she even added HOT Sauce to hers.

We ended up with eight volunteers and they all came into the room and each found something to do and so no one was overworked. Two of the couples come to later church so we just knew them in passing and so got acquainted with them. The two women, Stacey and Jamie, really got into entertaining the children after dinner. They gave horseback rides to the little ones and read to all of the children at quiet down time. Also, one of the highlights for the children was ice cream cones.

Sorry if I keep going on and on, but I'm so impressed with what Road Home is doing…. I wanted to thank you so very much for giving us the opportunity of meeting such brave and good, people.
