While some Outdoor Sports Ministry events will just focus on fun and Christian fellowship, some events will be suitable for incorporating spiritual activities.
Here's some ideas to get you thinking:
Outdoor worship services
Short devotions (prayer & scripture) to open or close an outdoor adventure
A hiking or back-packing retreat that includes time for solitude and spiritual reflection
A nature walk with pauses to meditate on a musical selection
Study of our role as stewards of God's creation (environmental issues)
Mini-sermons or spiritual exercises that relate to an outdoor adventure (such as light in the darkness as part of a caving adventure, or our different gifts and interdependence as part of an obstacle course adventure)
Ways to help with the ministry
Help gather a library/list of relevant spiritual songs, scripture references, spiritual stories or anecdotes that other Outdoor Sports Ministry participants could draw from
Lead an event with a more spiritual focus such as a backpacking retreat
Work with leaders of other Outdoor Sports Ministry events to incorporate a devotion
Simply offer to pray at events (some people are comfortable leading prayer or devotions; others aren't -- it's not uncommon for event participants to want a spiritual component but wish someone else would lead it!)
