Much of the work of the church is done by informal committees and teams (such as Courtyard Garden Committee, Website Team, Identity and Evangelism Team, etc.) All you have to do to get on these teams is contact the chair or coordinator anytime to volunteer. Most of these committees are listed on the website, and you can click on the chair's name to send an e-mail, or call the church office to find out who's in charge and how to reach them. Feel free to talk to the chair or coordinator about the way you'd like to be involved and the projects you're interested in working on. Most of these teams are very flexible and would love to have your ideas.
Major decisions are made primarily by our formally elected boards and Cabinet. Technically, once a year in May when terms expire for current board members, a nominating team puts forward a list of names of people who have been invited to serve as board members for the new three-year term. Then the congregation votes to elect those individuals. In practice, the leaders of the Cabinet and each board identify people that are interested in serving on that board and let the nominating team know. You do not have to wait to be invited to be on a board! Feel free to let board chairs know you are interested in serving on a board; they will be glad to have your help and your ideas. Every May official board seats come open. But the elected Cabinet is authorized to approve new board members in between the formal congregational meetings. The Cabinet has agreed that additional board members can join a board even when there are no official seats open, and sometimes official seats come open unexpectedly during the year, so don't feel like you have to wait until next May either! Board meetings are open to the public, so you are also welcome to sit in on some meetings of the board if you just want to see what's going on. Most boards meet on "Board Night," the 4th Thursday of the month.
