Called to Serve

Key Goals of Lake Edge Faith Education
As we lead our children and youth through the stepping stones, we hope to help them develop a deep and abiding faith. Lake Edge believes that these characteristics will signify that our young people are committed to God and to living faithful lives:
1. Trusting in a personal God.
2. Understanding grace and living in grace.
3. Communing with God regularly
4. Having a hopeful and positive outlook
5. Demonstrating unprejudiced and loving lives
6. Engaging in mission and service
7. Participating in the rituals of a Christian Community
8. Accepting responsibility in a congregation
9. Demonstrating moral responsibility
We guide the children of Lake Edge along a series of "faith stepping stones" for them to walk as they grow up. Each stepping stone is an opportunity for us to teach the principals of our vision and celebrate God's goodness and love.
Sunday Morning Programs
Children’s Music Program
During both worship services, following Word for All Ages, children who are interested will be escorted out of the sanctuary for Children's Music with Director Kerstin Smith. Children will be working on basic music concepts and music appreciation through singing, movement, and playing instruments. The children will sing in both services once every other month. Children of all ages (1-100) are welcome to participate in special music presentations such as the Christmas Musical and the Summer production.
Sunday School
"Small Wonders" Preschool/Kindergarten Sunday School
We begin in the preschool/kindergarten years to instill an awareness of the basic spiritual outlook of faith, hope and love. Emphasis is placed on creating a positive church experience by providing a friendly, safe environment. We focus on:
Introducing Bible stories using play, stories and enactment.
Introducing prayer through practicing prayers of gratitude
"Disciples" Kindergarten, First/Second Grade Sunday School
With a focus on building self confidence and promoting positive relationships with others, the first/second graders will work towards:
Acquiring a basic understanding/appreciation of what it means to be a
Christian with an awareness of other faith beliefs in the world.
Becoming familiar with some of the stories in the Bible and how that helps us in living our lives today.
Identifying God as a loving God that wants to be a friend on their spiritual journey.
: "Bible Explorers" Second/Third Grade Sunday School
We consider the third grade stepping stone to be a significant rite of passage at Lake Edge. Early in the school year third graders are presented with their own personal bibles in a ceremony during worship at both services. They use these bibles in their third grade class, working on:
Studying the authors of the different books of the Bible
Learning the history of how the Bible was written
Discovering new stories
Examining why the Bible is so important to us
Researching how Communion was started
"Apostles" Fourth, Fifth, Sixth Grade Sunday School
Fourth and Fifth graders continue their study of the bible, using the Children’s Illustrated Bible to learn the authors, stories and books of the bible. Innovative teaching methods in a dynamic environment are used to engage students, including using maps, activities (painting on the classroom walls), music and games that illustrate the day’s lesson. Key areas of study at this age include:
Learning the seasons of the church year
Memorizing The Lord’s Prayer and discussing different versions
"Prophets" Sixth, Seventh, Eighth Grade Sunday School
The 6th and 7th grade age group will study the passages presented in the bible lectionary each week and be given the chance to view its messages in relation to their own lives and their interaction with their world and their relationship with God. Service work and self-giving will be encouraged and integrated into the class year.
Age/Grades are Flexible
Please visit with the teachers to see which classroom is the best fit for your child. There will also be monthly large group activities open to all ages.
