Why would you walk a labyrinth?

Why would you decide to walk a labyrinth? Some people are drawn to the idea of walking meditation. For some, walking the labyrinth can be an opportunity to process something that has happened in their life. Some people gain insight into questions or problems they are wrestling with. Others have simply commented on how peaceful they feel during and after the walk. Any reason is a good one to walk the labyrinth, even if it’s only curiosity. The labyrinth is a very inclusive and hospitable walking meditation tool. You set your own pace, stop along the way if you like, stay as long as you like in the center. In fact, it is most important that you come to your experience of walking the labyrinth with an open mind and a willingness to open your heart to whatever you receive.

Cretian Labryinth

Lord of every pilgrim heart,
you are beside me
and before me on the way,
through your Spirit
at every turning on the path.
In this morning hour,
and in whatever the day
may hold,
open my eyes
to see your presence,
and my ears
to hear your voice,
that I may gratefully receive
all that you intend
for me and those I love.
Amen.
